I hate non-plural names too. It's also cornball and I've never been a fan of pro sports teams being named after mythology. And where's the green? Half the teams in the league and practically in all of American sports wear navy. Have some goddamn creativity for once. Enough with the navy and the black.
Metropolitans was always my first choice but I never figured it would fly with the stupid division name. I thought they had a great opportunity to go with the Totems and use that nice emerald green as a base. It would really add a nice page to the upcoming rivalry with Vancouver. Although, I'm sure it would have been racist a few minutes after it was announced.

They should have gone with "Washington Redskins" now that it's available. Not only is it geographically appropriate, but with how deeply it is associated with white people pretending not to be racist, it would have been the perfect way for them to honor their core fanbase in Seattle and the PNW. "The Seattle Grunge" was my first idea I went with, since i'm from the 90's. Nirvana happy faces as patches and cd covers as jersey prints Guam - It's all our damned Canadian influence man! The socialism seeps it way down from BC into Washington state, infecting the nation like Covid but much worse! A buncha pot smokin hippies up here let me tells ya! they REALLY should build a wall ughhhh Courtney Love would have shot that Grunge/Nirvana idea down. |

I'm 'whelmed' by the name and the jerseys. I think Kraken is a pretty lame name, and don't like that it's based on a mythical animal. Feels like they could have done so much better to tie the team name into something from the PNW like all the other teams. Jerseys I don't hate, and I actually like the red elements, but with every other sports team in Seattle using blue/green, it feels like the Kraken missed the boat with this one. Why not choose green? Too similar to Vancouver? Logo itself is kind of cool. I like the details of it, but also feels very bland for a primary logo. Not a fan of the home white jersey with the all white collar. One, because it seems bland, two because they get so dirty from wearing them. Lower hem stripes bother me because they seem so thin and don't match the sleeve stripes.
Wow, that seemed to be a lot of negativity toward the new team, but I swear I don't mean it. Excited for a new team to join the league

How can't you like the name? Best of the bunch considered if you ask me. I don’t like singular names for sports teams. Also it’s just kind of stupid. Reminds me more of a 90’s ECHL team name. I told my wife the new team was the Kraken, and she said “like, what’s crackin’?”. So even she, who cares not about hockey, made fun of it immediately. hah hey, that's fair. I didn't consider the singular name aspect. The krackden/krakhead thing is silly, but makes me laugh still. I think an alternate logo with an actual kraken could be top notch though. VERY mean looking. Plus the thematic stuff they could do in the arena could be super intimidating with all the nautical stuff they could pull off. |
