The above is why I thought a free format was better. All we’re really concerned about is the conversation. This format gives us a forum atmosphere (as opposed to Facebook, Reddit, etc.) and nobody has to worry about revenue.
I don’t have the time or desire to do that, so here we are.

Thanks for setting up this forum! Much preferred for me as opposed to other mediums.

The reddit crowd has ended their pursuit of purchasing IJ and I am getting partially blamed.
L-O-L.

The plan didn’t make sense, but i also think having a Subreddit and a Discord for the same group doesn’t make sense.

The Discord is a different market to the sub reddit but it still has its drawbacks; mainly as was pointed out on the IJ thread due to its size things get lost but there is definitely a "core" of people there like there is / was on IJ. It is a more discerning collector than the sub reddit which is a mess.
I viewed the attempt to buy the IJ Forum an act of communal goodwill to save the incredible wealth of information that is there.

I just picked up a Minnesota Wild third jersey and was looking for matching socks when I came across the Sports Buff forum followed by this thread. I have a small jersey collection and would read posts from there from time to time when it was branded as Ice Jerseys and it would be a shame to lose all the knowledge and I hope that it can be saved and this why I created this post.
I have been running forums for many years so I am hoping the following will be helpful.
Sports Buff uses the Invision Community forum software and the $45/month cost mentioned in this thread leads me to believe they are using the cloud version of the software. The cloud version of the Invision Community forum includes the cost of the forum software and the cost of hosting the forum (disk space, bandwitdth, etc). If I am correct and the cloud version of the software is being used, the forum database will eventually be deleted, so it is important that the Sports Buff forum owner requests a backup of the forum database when they cancel the forum cloud service. The new owner would then need to upload the database (and attachments) to a hosting provider of their choice (or continue with the same cloud service). Only caveat with the self-hosted option is that the new owner would need to buy the Invision Community forum software ($200). There are alternative forum software that can be used that are cheaper or free, but this would require a forum conversion script to be run.
If the Sport Buff forum uses the self-hosted on-premise version of the Invision Community forum software, the new owner would need to move the forum to another hosting provider. Switching hosts is easy and does not take long if the hosting provider migration tool is used. If the migration tools cannot be used a manual transfer is not that hard either. The Invision Community forum software license would also need to be transferred to the new owner.
Given the size (~200k posts) and amount of daily visitors on Sports Buff currently, I believe it could run on a $10 hosting account with no issues. On top of hosting, there would also be the $50 annual maintenance fee for the Invision Community forum software and the yearly domain name fee (~$20).
Hope this helps.
